This trek is known as "The Royal Trek" because it is the route used by Prince Charles of England and luminaries like Mick Jagger. This trek starts from Pokhara with a drive to Bijaypur Khola. The trek takes you on a four days loop through the Himalayan foothills and end up in Begnas village with a boat and drive back to Pokhara. This is a short enjoyable trek, ideal for those who don't have time for a longer Himalayan Expedition. The beauty of this trek is that it still offers spectacular views of Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Machapuchre, Lamjung, Dhaulagiri and other surrounding peaks and insight into simple village way of life.
Day 01: Pokhara to Kalikasthan.
It is about 5 km drive to the Bijayapur Army Camp just east to Bijayapur Khola. A broad trail sits in rice fields, then ascends through the village o Rakhigaun to a Chautara, a resting place under a large papal trek.
These trees, planted centuries ago, have broad leaves and branches that extend out-fashion, offering welcome shade to travelers. It was under a banyan tree (also called a Boodie tree) that Buddha attained enlightenment in India, over 2000 years ago. You can differentiate the banyan from the papal tree (a related species) by the long roots that drop down from the limbs, a peculiarity of the banyan. Around these shades trees, people have built walls and Chautara's, stone benches, of the porter to rest their loads upon as they pass during the hot, steep climbs. Many people build a Chautara's in the name of a deceased relatives.
The trial climbs gently along ridges top thorough Brahmin and Chetrum villages towards Kalikasthan at 1370 meters. The children along this part of the trail are particularly persistent about asking for money, balloons or pens. Depending on the time that you start walking, you can camp either before or after the village of Kalikasthan. Both campsites are on ridge tops with good mountain views, including Machhapuchhere and Annapurna.
Day 02: Kalikasthan to Shyaklung.
The trial continues along the forested ridge top through Thulokot to Mati Thana, where there are few tea shops. There is a short climb, the trek reaches Naudanda not to be confused with the Naudanda west of Pokhara. Continue along the bridge to a school at Lipni village, then main a steep but short climb of the forests to the Gurung village of Shyaklung at 1730 meters.
Day –03: Shyaklung to Chisopani.
The Zen Treks continue to change as the route comes areas to the Annapurna 2, Lamjung Himal, Manaslu and Himalchuli. From Shyaklung, the trial drops steeply down the south side of the hill to a large tree, a Chautara, several tea shops and a police check post. This is a trail junction; trial lead from here to Begnas Tal and east to the Marshyangdi Khola. The Royal Trek route climbs towards Chisopani, winding around back of the hill to the village. A short distance above Chisopani village is a high knoll where there is a small temple. This is Chisopani Danda, meaning Chisopani ridge top; the camp here has splendid mountain views.
Day 04: Chisopani to Pokhara.
From Chisopani Danda, descend along the ridge for an hour or so, then descend steeply on the stone steps, into a small valley and a 188 Annapurna Region-The Royal Trek steam that feds Rupa TAI. Continue for a short distance through the rice fields, then make a final ascent, to the ridge that separates Begnas and Rupa Tal, on a wide path you will share with many local people. From the ridge, descend the Begnas Bazaar and to Pokhara.
